Welcome to the Home of the Angels!

Be patient with us, we are in the middle of rebuilding our division historical website! The most important part is to remember that… DOWN FROM HEAVEN COMES ELEVEN!

  1. Gentlemen:
I need some help figuring out the assignments of my late father (CWO-3 George Lawrence Ludlow) during WWII. I have his original Service Record for 1939-1945 (also 1937-1939, and 1945-1967). And I received 10 pdf documents (after trying for the last 15 years) of everything the NPRC could provide on him. But I cannot adequately figure out on p5 of his SR under the Military Records section under Assignments from 1943 to 1945 where he was assigned–I think he was variously in the 511th PIR, 513th PIR and 517th PIR (I have his original signed copy of the 517th Parachute Infantry Combat Team, Christmas 1944 roster). But I’m not sure about ” Co K 1st PTR, Ft. Benning GA, OCT 25, 1943″ or “Hq Co ??? Prcht Inf, Cp MACALL NC, Nov 27/43” or “PRCT. T?? BN, A.P.O 512?, 6-4-44”. I think I then see “Co E, 517th PIR, APO 758, 10-20-44″ and then ” Co E 513th PCHT INF, APO 452, NY NY, 7 July 45″. I can’t figure out the Airborne divisions these units were attached–I think they were the 11th, 17th and 82nd.

I also have a question about multiple passages (including his discharge papers) that say he was presented with the CIB on Nov 27 1944 at Sospel France but another later record says Awards and Decorations Issued: and for the CIB it says “NO”.

So, do you know of someone I can share this information with who can work through his airborne assignments during the war and make sense of the discrepancy in the CIB award? Of course I would pay for this service.
    Thank you
